The World has Moved

Mid-December, heavy sleet to pelt down
on pedestrians and cars, thick snow from
about the sixtieth story up. Jammed streets,
the usual sirens, the typical plumes of smoke
at crossroads, the same old human octopus
clinging to concrete and asphalt. All other
petty cities must be deserted, it really seems
the whole world is rushing here and nowhere
else at Christmastime. Please hold on, no fear!
This brass monkey weather will eventually
let go, you all will find your taxi or a comfy
café where to hole up and warm your bones.
Relax! Take your time and take some dry seat:
the world is parading in front of your eyes.
Cheer up: New York City welcomes you!
