On the Transmigration of the Greek Soul

They converged
upon New York
like God’s Host
orbiting
about Him
or like white blood cells
upon a pathogen

The fluid
of need’s
occidental currents
long since
congealed
into an amalgamation
of transplanted cells
in foreign tissue

further condensing
millennia of movements
into outer boroughs
interpreting exaltation
sacrifice and death
in the gaudy blues and whites
of pizzerias
and souvlaki joints
